And Now for the Pictures... Oh Wait...

So, this would normally be the time when I would show the you the "after" pictures of all the work I did this weekend. However, as Reid left Friday morning for a wedding in Virginia he took our digital camera with him. So... still no pictures. I'll just have to paint the pictures with the mind (yeah right).

Let's start off by saying I am sore! Minus a few hours bowling Saturday evening (which probably didn't help the soreness factor) and a few hours last night reading, I have spent the entire weekend painting. Everyone who has recently painted a 12X20 room raise your hand... oh wait, you can't because your arm is too sore!

I was very lucky in that Renee volunteered to come help on Saturday (apparently she loves painting... crazy woman). Painting always goes more quickly when you have someone to talk to... oh and two more hands. We got two coats of yellow on the dining room (which I love, hooray)! We also got one coat of yellow on two of the kitchen walls (the ones without cabinets) and two coats of dark yellow on the lower panelling of those walls. We also learned a valuable lesson... you should prime unfinished wood panelling before painting it. So yesterday I added three more coats to that and I think it looks mighty good if I do say so myself. I think the two tone yellow is going to take awhile to grow on me, but I think it will (especially when we have the cabinet doors painted in the dark yellow, which will help to visually tie the colors together, I hope).

I also learned that I hate our walls. On Saturday afternoon I tested a spot with tape to see if it was ready for taping so that we could begin the trim. Nope, paint came off on the tape. No problem I would just do it Sunday. Sunday morning I tested two spots... no paint on the tape and I breathed a huge sigh of relief (of course the story isn't over, hence the foreshadowing of the first sentence). I taped all of the trim and there is a whole lot of it in that room. I used a full 60 yard role of tape. I painted the trim, some sections twice. I then began to pull off the paint. Luckily in small sections only, it would pull off not only the paint that we put on yesterday but the beige color that was on the wall as well. Yes, the tape stripped everything down to the plaster. I believe that means that the plaster walls were not prepped properly for paint to be applied to them, possibly as long ago as two or three applications. Therefore, I have already told Reid in our phone conversation last night, the first person to tape something to our walls will be painting the entire 12X22 room with the 1/8" brush I used to fix the holes. Everyone has been warned.

And that was my weekend. How was yours?

hey to avoid some of the tape issues, use an exacto knife to get it off. In the end this will mean that you will leave on some tape that you painted, but no one will know the difference.

How was my weekend? Well, I haven't had sink or dishwasher since Wednesday. And the stove works, but there's nowhere to put anything except right on the stove... And there's no table... and I keep having to search for plates and stuff...
I think we'll both be glad when things are "the way we intend them to be". :)

we missed you at Sheep & Wool! It was a busy day... and we went shopping on Sunday, too.

Ah, yes, learning the value of priming!! And I promise I will not tape anything on the walls. My arm hurts but I didn't do any painting. Just running to the hospital this weekend. have gone through all the cook books and the tupperware cabinet! Two more bags of things to go!
