Thesis Submitted

Our electronic thesis has been submitted!! Now the Graduate School checks it over and then posts it on the library website for the world to read. (I'll post the link here when it is done... I'm sure that you would all love to read over a hundred pages on team teaching). Hooray!

I perform graduate directing projects this evening and Wednesday evening (I'm in two of them). Wish us luck as our transitions between scenes have never been rehearsed (I'm forseeing catrastophes).

And last, but not least, I made rice krispie treats for our undergrad acting class since our last official class meeting time is tomorrow... of course a few of the treats might not make it there, especially if Reid has his way! :)

My Husband's Toe!

Reid tried to chop off his toe yesterday with his steel-toed boots at work... so I took a picture to share with all of you. We're hoping it's not broken... he can wiggle it a little, so it probably isn't.

Friday!

I love Fridays... I usually have a lot to do over the weekend, but on Friday it always seems manageable.

I spent the last two evenings watching undergraduate directing projects in a theatre that was about 90 degrees inside. Apparently there is a broken part in the generator and the school is shopping around for the part... this means that when we perform the graduate directing projects next week (Monday and Wednesday evenings) there will most likely still be no air conditioning. As I am in two of the projects (each lasting about twenty minutes), I am hoping that our recent coldish snap continues into next week. I haven't looked at the weather forecast but my magic eight-ball tells me that the outlook is not good.

In other news I have sent back my contract with all of my paperwork. I started looking online today for a job for Reid in Alamosa.... it could take awhile to find something that is not going to either:
a. Break his back (literally)
b. Be so monotonous that I poke my eyes out for him
c. He is qualified for (a lot of the jobs in Alamosa are at the hospital, and a radiologist my husband is not)
But... I'm sure we'll find one. Wouldn't it be perfect if there were an opening at the Great Sand Dunes or one of the other parks in the area? I know a part of him would really like that (back to interpreting). But we'll find something.

We are also now signed up on an automatic mailing list with a realtor in Alamosa, which sends us new houses with land when they are posted to the web... no new houses so far. I'm hoping as May progresses there will be more. The realtor said finding a rental with three pets can be dicey, so keep your fingers crossed for us that the perfect house will come along (and that we can find Reid a job so that we can afford this perfect house).

What else? My acting students performed their final scenes on Tuesday and they were really good! It made both Julie and I really happy to see how much they have grown this year. I'm sure that a lot of it is simply college maturation, but I like to think that a little bit of it is Julie and I's teaching. Of course they have a long way to go. But overall, really good work.
And speaking of acting class, it's time for me to go grade some more papers!

My Contract

I just received my contract today! That means as soon as I send it out I will officially have a job! Hooray... now I just have to fill out all of the forms.

In other news, Julie and I defended our thesis today (first ever co-written thesis in the VCU theatre department and possibly all of VCU). It was lovely. We sat around and chatted with our thesis committee, discussing what we learned and where we are going from here. It was very informal for a thesis defense (we even brought treats!).

Alamosa

This is Castle Rock, which can be seen on the drive from Denver to Alamosa (it is on the "Front Range" before you go through the pass to the San Luis Valley). Reid was very excited because Castle Rock is a place mentioned in the "Oregon Trail" game from our childhood!

This is looking east on Main Street in Alamosa.

This is Main Street looking West.

This picture was taken standing in the Walmart parking lot (which is west of town) back towards town and Blanco Peak (which unfortunately is shrouded in clouds. It is the third highest peak in Colorado).

This is the Adams State Theatre the morning that we left Alamosa. It has a 250 seat proscenium space (with lots of fly space! as is evident by the shape of the building) and a 120ish seat experimental space.

This is going through the pass on our way back to Denver. There were a few white knuckle sections with ice, but overall, it was beautiful!

Okay, so I know it's proably for elk and not moose, but I took the picture for Dad anyway.

Look Sarah, there is a whale in Alamosa!

My First Entry

I have been lurking on other people's blogs for long enough! It is time to start my own... Now I just have to write stuff so people will want to read it.

I was offered a job teaching college theatre at Adams State College yesterday and accepted today. That means that at the end of July/beginning of August my husband, beagle, two cats and I will be making the long trek from Richmond, VA to Alamosa, CO (yeah, I had never heard of the place or the college before I applied either).

More later... off to bed now.
