Camping!

We are going camping this weekend! One of my sister's work friends organized a trip to go camping in Maryland and tubing near Harper's Ferry. Now since Reid and I will have Tater, our dog, with us we aren't able to go tubing. But we convinced two of our friends to go with us (with their dog) so that while the others are on the river we can go and do something else fun (maybe lunch in Harper's Ferry and some Appalachian Trail hiking).

What I am looking forward to the most is the camp fire! I even drove to Dick's Sporting Goods today with Tater (there is one here in Richmond that allows dogs inside!). We bought some roasting sticks and a Rome double pie iron, like the ones that we used as kids to make pies! I am so excited about it, and about the smores. Imagine that! Jenna excited about dessert...

Hopefully I'll have some good pictures to post of our adventures!

It's starting to become official!

It is starting to look like the job is real! I just told one of the other professors what I wanted my door's name plate to read and sent him my bio and picture for the website (since the voting of the only four people who regularly read my blog came up with the same one that I was leaning towards! Hey, four readers is better than none!). But I'm pretty sure that once I have an engraved door plate they can't take the job away from me, for at least a little while :)

In other news, I am still working on getting my syllabi for my three classes together. Right now I'm still in the research phase for one of them, the tidying up phase of another and the "oh-yeah, I'll think about that soon" on the third. I really just need a few days where I'm not doing anything else (yeah right, hunh?).

A Poll!

So everyone,
I need a picture to put on the Adams State website and since it doesn't look like I will be getting headshots before I start working there I had Reid take a few last night and then I photo-shopped them to my liking.
So here is the fun part... I am going to post them and then you can vote for which one you like the best (just comment and let me know)! I have all three in black and white as well, but after surfing the Adams State website it looks like almost everyone else is in color.

The polls are now open! I think I have a favorite but I want to hear from all of you! :)

The Portico is Done!

So after a hard weekend's work, the portice on Sarah and Dan's house is built. There is still some finish work for them to do (touch up paint, etc). But I am really proud of the work that we did! Check it out on Sarah's blog (http://www.snargle.org/crafty/)!

Flowers at Sarah's House

Alright,
So these were actually taken the weekend before last, when we went up to Sarah and Dan's for the first time. But I just now downloaded them and thought they were pretty enough to share with everyone.

Sorry It's been awhile

Alright, so it's been awhile since I've posted. This week has been a whirlwind of class, hanging out with friends who won't see for much longer and trying to begin the steps of moving/packing. We have reorganized the space around our computer and are hoping to consolidate all of our home files into one of our filing cabinets, making it possible for me to use the other one in my office at school this coming fall.

We went to Godfrey's last night, a bar frequented and staffed in large part by drag queens. Some of our friends were doing a piece of 365 Days/365 Plays (http://www.365days365plays.com/). This piece was over very quickly, but we stayed and had a few drinks. It was actually a lot of fun and the first time I've seen most of the people I went to school with since I graduated. There are a few of them that I think I will really miss.

Tonight I'm off to listen to informative speeches (aren't I lucky?). And in similar news, I have almost completed my first of three syllabi for this fall (my public speaking one). One down, two to go!

Then tomorrow Reid and I head back up to Sarah and Dan's to help build an arbor over their front door. If Sarah doesn't post pictures on her blog (http://www.snargle.org/crafty/) I may post them here!

Visiting Family

Reid and I are in Takoma Park, MD this weekend visiting with my sister and brother-in-law. My legs are tired from playing Dance-Dance Revolution! We aren't sure what we're going to do tomorrow, but I'm sure it will be fun!

Thunderstorms

It's thunderstorming for the third day in a row... which means for the third day in a row my head hurts (arrgh to changing pressure!) and for a third day in a row Tater is shaking at my feet. He will soon be hiding underneath the bed. Poor little guy. It doesn't matter how many times I tell him that he is safe in the house, he is certain that the storm is going to get him...

Pets are such help...

Reid and I have begun using the "Sided-Tracked Home Executive" organization system for our apartment because I had decided that it was just getting out of hand. We started last week and have been doing very well. Below is a picture of our kitchen. This is now what it looks like every day (you can barely see the sink but I assure you there are no dishes in it). I know it still looks cluttered (no helping that at the moment) but it is clean!

One of the cards is making the bed each morning... I tried this morning but Tater was also trying to help me!

Dogs...

I went back to work today at the Holiday Barn Pet Resort as a dog groomer (the job I have done for the past two summers)... every muscle in my body hurts. The only thing I will miss about this job is how good Tater smells when I cuddle up with him right after a bath (like right now).

So it's been a few days...

But the truth is that Reid and I and the pets live pretty boring lives. Reid and I have been working on getting our house in order before the move (throwing away, sorting, etc). That may or may not be complete by the time we move!

But today Tater and I took a break and went to "Paws in the Park" (http://www.aarf.org/) sponsored by a local rescue group. We met some of Tater's beagle friends there (http://beagles.meetup.com/214/?gj=sj6). He had a good time and has been sleeping peacefully in his basket since then. This evening Reid and I are going to meet some friends for dinner... then tomorrow it is off to work for me to wash dogs.

See... my life is really not that exciting!

Murder Mystery Party

Reid and I attended a murder mystery party last night at a friend's house and really enjoyed ourselves. It was set in a 1936 English Mansion. Though neither of us ended up being the murderer we were both suspected by someone else!
Reid and I, as a American movie starlet and an English doctor respectively

A place to live!!

We have located a place to rent in Alamosa!! We're waiting to get the lease sent to us but have received verbal confirmation that we will be renting the house pictures below on a non-fixed term in Alamosa! It is a little smaller than our current apartment (yikes!) but the rent is low so we'll be able to rent a place to store all of the stuff that won't fit.
And of course most importantly, they are allowing our pets and it even has a small fenced in yard. It's also right next to a park for easy Tater walking!
So it looks small because it is small, both the file size (5 kb) and the house (around 700 sq. ft)

the kitchen isn't big... but looks bright... and there's a washer/dryer!!
