2007 Resolution... Finally Met!

So, back in Virginia I set a goal for myself to get to a certain weight... I worked at it and worked at it... And still hovered about six pounds above it.

Well, I stepped on the scale yesterday and saw the number that I had been looking for for almost a year now! I have been just watching what I eat and this past week I started exercising. Now let me be honest with you folks... I am not the work-out type. I have friends who will remain nameless who extol the virtues of working out, saying (in a sickeningly sweet voice) "I feel so good after I work out. The endorphins are great!" I have never gotten to that point with a workout regimen. I have never worked through the "Oh my goodness... my body is in so much pain and my muscles are saying NOOOO!" to that supposed euphoria of working out. But my goal this time is to get to that place.

I'm mainly just trying to keep myself entertained with changing up the routine. So one day I put on Reid's boxing gloves and went out and pounded on Bob, the punching bag shaped like a human. Boy did that work my arms and shoulders! Then the next day I punched the air in the house (Tater watched me with suspicion and a mild look of amusement... stupid human). I also bought some workout videos and have been supplementing with them (Carmen Electra's Striptease is fun, if not the strongest cardio workout and I have no excuse not to use the 10 minute Pilates DVD... I mean, it's only ten minutes!). Hopefully these will keep me entertained for awhile and the number on the scale will keep me motivated!

This next week will probably be a bit of a challenge (both being good with what I eat and with posting to my blog), since I'll be in Denver at a conference from Tuesday through Sunday... and eating out is never as easy to stay focused! But I'm going to try. Then when I get back I plan to finally explore the climbing wall at ASC, which is free to use for faculty, staff and students (and spouses should Reid want to come with me!). Teaching a movement class has really motivated me to model what I am going to be preaching to my students... I've always wanted to feel confident enough in the strength of my body that I could look at a stunt and say "Yeah, I can learn to do that." Hopefully by the end of this semester, that is how I'll feel!

Congrats!! That's an awesome accomplishment! I don't love to work out either but I'm trying to get back at it and we have cut sugar and carbs way back. :) So all that to say, we are right there with ya! :) Oh and I really like Pilates. Anyway, have a great trip!

Congrats on the six pounds! That is awesome. I know how hard it is to lose weight! Also, your friend that loves to work out becuase the endorphins are great, still has to get her lazy butt off the couch, which she finally managed to do for the first time in almost two years, approximately 2 1/2 weeks ago. Liking to work-out and doing it are two very different things.

That's awesome! Keep it up! I don't work out either (and I have never felt that "wow, this is great" feeling...) but when I do, I like to get different exercise DVDs from the library and do a different one every day. It keeps things interesting. I like Taebo and Cardio Hip Hop! :)
